Lunch with the girls

Evie, Lillian, and I had the pleasure of seeing one Hostess with the Mostess, Dana, this past Saturday for what we girls like to call a "ya-ya" lunch. Dana made a wonderful lasagne lunch with salad, bread, and of course, wine.

Dana isn't much of a wine drinker -- self-admittedly. So it wasn't surprising when Evie and I got to her house that she was sipping on a Corona with lime. She did, however, buy a couple of bottles of Williamsburg Winery's Governor's White for the occasion. The Winery's website says:

"A fresh, fruity semi-dry blend, perfect as an aperitif or with light fare.

A wine for all seasons, this fruity wine is an excellent complement to seafood as well as ham, and light luncheon fare. Chilled, the wine will also be good company to cajun and other spicy cuisine.

In keeping with The Williamsburg Winery’s tradition of historical identification of its products, the inspiration for Governor’s White was Governor Berkeley (Governor of Virginia in the 17th cent.)"

I do agree with its description. Interesting that it says "chilled, ...," indicating that one might want to drink it any other way BUT chilled. No -- this white needs some chillin'. In my opinion, it's a little on the sweet side, a wine I might consider a dessert wine (but certainly not in the typical class as a dessert wine). It's inexpensive, being about $8 a bottle. If you're serving wine to a group that aren't a bunch of wine snobs, this is a good one. It's packaged in a classy bottle, and it's certainly at a price tag that you can share. And Dana indulged with us. (Evie, Lil, and I like a variety of wines, but we're not "snobs" -- we'll drink your wine. Honest.).

Evie also brought a bottle of Yellow Tail Bubbles -- yes, you read right. A Yellow Tail sparking wine. I've had several Yellow Tail wines (I say I "started" on wine while trying reds such as Yellow Tail Shiraz), but I had no idea that they made a sparkling wine. Not much of a "Champagne" drinker, it's hard for me to gauge what is good and what is not in the sparking department. But it was fun. We sipped on that before moving to the Governor's White. Then, of course, we slipped into something more comfortable ... the Menage ...
